i’ve been in vancouver for a while now, and i’ve heard the same complaint the entire time – namely, nothing happens here. or not enough.
i can understand why people say that. vancouver can be an oddly anti-social place at times. but if you scratch below the surface and do a bit of digging, you soon discover that there’s actually a lot of cool stuff going on.
case in point. in the last little while, not one, not two, but three electronic albums (okay, one’s an e.p.) have come out of our fair burg. first up is connect_icut’s fourier’s algorithm, a lovely concoction of glitchiness and détournement that begins with an undoing of the chimey opening to the velvet underground’s “sunday morning.” download it now, courtesy of the extremely generous artiste, here.
other offerings have also come forth from loscil (on kranky) and babe rainbow (on warp). i haven’t heard these (yet) but you can read about them here and here courtesy of the pitchfork mafia.
now go forth and dig!
*blush*
Nice one Pondy – I listened to some of the Loscil stuff on that link – is very cool. I would like to hear more of that. Any more links to tunes?
